Getting Your Baby In A Sleeping Routine

Often one of the hardest things about becoming a new mom is the sleep deprivation and the stress that commonly occurs around baby’s bedtimes. There is a wealth of information out there to read on the topic, but you need to take only the bits that work for you and leave the rest of it.

Developing a routine with your baby is very important. While some people really like routines, other people have trouble following them – however, it is really worth sticking at it as you will be able to avoid some problems if you do. You should also try to keep your baby calm around bed times and you can plan activities such as a warm bath and quiet snuggles before bub is put to bed. Try not to have too many people nurse the baby as this can be over stimulating for them.

Before you bring your baby home you need to have it set up to facilitate relaxation for your baby and easy use for you. A convertible crib is a great way to get maximum use out of a cot that will work from birth up to when the baby moves onto a bed.

When purchasing the cot it is a good idea to get a convertible crib natural colored. This will mean that you can easily use it for later babies regardless of the sex of the child and you may be able to sell it more easily when you are finished with it.

When you have bought the crib, then you need to think about the bedding collection. It needs to be practical and ideally look nice too. You will need to have a few sets of sheets as babies are notorious for pooping and peeing and puking on things. You will most likely need three sets to have one on the go, one in the wash and one as back up.

Some moms opt for controlled crying to teach their babies to settle themselves and get back to sleep independently. To learn more about it you can talk to your baby nurse or read up on the Internet. Some mothers find this technique too stressful for them as it requires leaving baby to cry by itself for periods of time. If you are feeling like you are not coping due to supreme tiredness, then you should speak to your baby nurse for advice.

Controlled crying should only start after six months and before two years of age. It has never been shown to be dangerous for babies, but it should only be done when you are positive that your baby is getting enough attention and cuddles during the day. You can combine controlled crying with an all round positive bed routine.
