Baby Earrings

Longing For Pretty Earrings At The Mall

All three girls wished they could wear a dress like the ones the sexy movie actresses wore. The gowns they tried on this afternoon were all too revealing. Their parents would not buy them a dress that looked like something out of a playboy magazine.

They stared down at the swarovski earrings with longing. They liked almost every pair in the jewelry case. One pair had oblong emerald green stones with pave diamond chips at the ear lobe. They had seen a green prom dress that would match perfectly they recalled.

Traci thought she had seen a woman wearing a pair just like it at a formal awards dinner earlier that month. They all were impressed by the lovely earrings. They decided white with gold tones would match just about any formal gown.

Laughlingly they thought about how easy it would be to lose an earring. It seemed practical to sell earrings in groups of three instead of pairs. Each girl had lost favorite earrings more than once.

Now they thought if they each bought identical pairs, they would each lose only one and could take an extra from one another to make a pair. They couldn’t lose more than one each. That left at least one matching pair.

They moved to the next display case to look over rhodium earrings. Traci looked back longingly at the pair of swarovski desert glow earrings. Wish I had over a hundred dollars to spend on earrings she thought.

Her dress would be all she could expect her mother to pay for this year. She would pay for shoes and a purse with baby sitting money. The earrings were way out of her budget this year.

The girls moved on after viewing the rest of the earrings. They went out to the food court and bought sodas. Sitting down, they began to lament about how to get rid of acne. This is a topic most teenagers spend a lot of time talking about.

They decided to stop worrying about pimples and bought a plate of nachos to share. Traci had a date with a football player for the prom. The other girls had been asked but had not decided yet who to go with. If they didn’t get an invite from a boy they liked, they would go with each other.

Lots of girls did that. It was like a new trend. They could reject tradition. Just like the kids who dressed Emo or Goth. It was a way to rebel against societal rules and regulations. Teens have been doing that since time immemorial.
