Helping Your Child Make Transition From Nursery To Big Kid Room
Making the transition from a nursery to a big girl or big boy room is usually harder on the parents than on the children. When the time comes to make the switch from baby room to toddler room, it is helpful to let them get involved in the decorating with things such as the colors, theme and furniture choices.
Give them suggestions for a theme by suggesting cartoon shows or a fairytale as the basis. Taking the baby cribs down might be difficult for some, however, the excitement from the children make the task somewhat simpler. When the crib has been disassembled the remaining items that are nursery oriented should also be removed to have room for big kid stuff.
The entire family should be involved in picking out the new bed. Children get very excited at the prospect of being the one who made the final decision. They will most likely need to be steered away from something like a loft bed and led more towards a youth bed, but when they see the options it will be a quick choice for them.
Once the child has decided on a theme for their new room it will be easier to choose quilt sets to match the style. If they have a favorite cartoon or fairy tale, there are numerous styles available to choose from.
As the child ages there are going to be more toys and educational items collecting in their room so getting a few of the bright colored containers and baskets will provide a place for them to keep items organized. Let them choose which color for the item to be stored in as it will help them to remember where everything goes.
Purchasing the brightly colored child hangers also will help them to want their clothes to be hung in the closet as opposed to laying around. Instead of buying new dressers often times by applying a coat of new paint to the old ones with new pulls, the child will think they have all new furniture.
The next step is to pick out a new paint color. For getting the child involved in choosing the color, take them to the home improvement store and let them pick from two or three paint chips. Add some pictures to the walls and your child has now gone from a nursery into a big kid room. Since they were involved in the process they will be more excited to keep the area clean as well.
