How To Buy A Baby Monitor

If you want to buy a baby monitor, you are about to find out just how confusing the whole process can be! With a world full of options available, from brands to sizes, to functions, it’s no wonder why we need to carefully assess what we want when looking for the right baby monitor. Some systems are even so extensive, that they offer you full video and audio surveillance, and some can be hardwired into your home, while others offer multiple receiver varieties! But, before you just run off and choose the first baby monitor you can find, consider these tips to help you figure out exactly what you need.

Frequencies and channel range, what kind do you need?

If you live in an apartment building, or any area where there are a lot of people living close together, you will want a unit which will give you a larger range frequency wise, because you don’t want to have to deal with the hassle of interference from monitoring systems in other homes/apartments near by. It’s absolutely critical that you adapt a system which can work on different frequencies, because the last thing you need is to be picking up the frequencies from another person’s baby monitor or device, instead of the sounds from your own baby. How much do you want to be able to monitor? You may find your mind at ease with a system which can track every little thing that happens while you are away from your infant. Some other parents may simply find it too overbearing or nerve racking to actually sit and watch or hear every little noise or occurrence that comes from the room. If you need the added monitoring to feel secure that your baby is okay, you’ll want to choose a system that has video feeds as well as audio feeds, as these can record and monitor your baby’s every movement and allow you to watch the feed as it is broadcast. While more extensive systems can record and monitor the movement of your baby, the downside to this system is that it will take up a lot of your time, since you will probably always be watching the monitor, instead of getting your work done, which is why you may prefer a simple audio only type system. Keep in mind that the system you choose should only reflect the important needs of your family, and it does not mean that you are a good or bad parent if you choose a system which only has audio monitoring capabilities.

How extensive would you like your system to be? If you don’t have that much space, you may not be able to get more extensive systems, and if you live in a small home a single receiver or base station might be better. In larger homes or homes in which lots of people are around to help, having multiple receivers might be a good idea. If you are in fact thinking about getting a multiple receiver, consider getting one that has the feature of both inbound and outbound communication. Also, if you choose to go with more than one receiver, you will always know what is going on no matter where you are, and you won’t always have to be carrying a receiver around with you.

There are so many things to consider when you purchase your baby monitor. However, your final decision really depends on what all you want your system to do for you and your family, and also how much your budget is. Take the time to figure out what it is that you actually want by researching the features and pros of various baby monitoring systems, that way in the end you will be happy with your final decision.
