The Right Baby Blanket
My first baby was a real bouncing baby and he stayed like that until he was a toddler and so he rarely felt the cold. He had plenty of insulation and of course because he was the first he never had to do the school run. My daughter was a different story; she was long and thin and always felt cold. I had to take her on the school run every day and because it was always around her nap time, she was quite often asleep in her buggy. In the winter months she needed loads of cover and I struggled to find a baby blanket that was big enough to keep her warm.
I used to tuck great big fleeces over her to keep her warm and in an attempt to keep them from falling off. One day I was chatting to one of my friends and she said, I know what you need and she told me about a baby travel wrap baby blanket that a lady had invented locally.
I was over the moon to hear of a solution to my problem, so I immediately spoke to the people and they brought round a selection of colours to show me. Because my daughter was around 18 months, she was actually too long for the product, but the wrap was still big enough to go round her, she just couldn’t wear the hood. I was insistent on having the wrap as it solved all my baby blanket problems and I know that it would keep my daughter much warmer. The added bonus was that because it fits in the buggy, she was sitting on it and it didn’t fall under the buggy and get run over.
The travel wrap baby blanket is also ideal for using in the car seat, I later learn that it is much safer to use than a thick coat because the straps go under the blanket and fit to the child. I never had cause to use it in the car seat, but in the winter months, I can imagine that if you are carrying the baby out to the car in the car seat. It means they stay snugly warm until the car has warmed up, then you can easily unwrap them.
A standard baby blanket does have a lot of purposes and can be great for use in a baby bouncer and when they are sleeping at home in the day, but I would highly recommend that for travel in the car and buggy that you look for a travel wrap as they do the job in a much better way. The added advantage is that they protect your buggy and car seat from mess and you can easily wash them, they can’t fall off and go under the wheels or get lost. You can control your baby’s temperature much more easily and if it’s cold it keeps them really warm from head to toe.
