Counting My Blessings As A New Grandma
I don’t usually feel very old but today was a little different. You see my daughter just told me she was expecting. Yes, my first grandchild is on its way. I knew this day would come but you never know how you are going to react until it happens.
I was just there during the summer baby monitor in hand. How did the time go by so fast and was I really that old to be a grandmother. But alas I am, and I am excited. It is going to be really cool to sit and watch my daughter go through the process. And after all I am the grandma and I get to spoil the baby right?
The months seem to go by fast as the pregnancy comes along. She has gotten through the sick phase, been through the craving phase and now is getting to the nesting phase. All the emotions of all the phases have come with them and I have been there to guide her through them. I remember what an exciting scary time this it.
Aw the memories flood back when I had the same mixed emotions coupled with raging hormones. It is such an exciting time in your life, I tell her, and it will all be okay. This is normal and everyone feels this way.
Near the end of the pregnancy I decided to throw her a baby shower. It was fun picking out all the decorations and preparing the games for the party. The invitations were a pretty baby blue with little yellow accents and I looked forward to throwing it as I wrote out the invitations.
I decided to take her to go get registered for gifts, just like my mom took me. She opted for a beautiful set of crib accessories, baby bath towels and even a Graco car seat because she had done some reading on their safety. She opted for a jungle theme which I thought was very cute for her new little bundle of boy that was coming.
In the final month I watched as her husband assembled the crib and watched with fondness as I remembered the same memory in watching my husband to it for our daughter. When the time came all went well and our new little addition to family is home safe and sound and is a precious little thing that I cannot put into words how much I love.
My new little grandson came into the world with ease. And as I sit here this Christmas by the tree holding him in his little Santa suit I thank God for what a blessing it is to be a grandmother. May I live up to the name and be there for him while loving and accepting him for who is going to be.
